The accomplishments achieved by Scott Rocklage are an inspiration to many people either in entrepreneurship or biochemical research. Dr. Scott is currently the managing partner at 5AM Ventures where he began serving in 2003. The doctor, based in Boston has almost 30 years of experience in management of healthcare. This wealth of experience, alongside his extensive scientific background has reinforced his career. Together with his extensive scientific and healthcare expertise, and strategic leadership roles, this history has proven him as a successful, decisive leader in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and Venture Capital.
Besides being a managing partner at 5AM Ventures, Scott Rocklage is presently the chairman of the Boards of Achaogen, Relypsa, and Semprus. He also sits on Variation, WaveRx, Pulmatrix Boards as well as Whitehead Institute Board of Associates. Moreover, he also chairs the boards of Cidara, Rennovia, and Kinestral Therapeutics among others.
Dr. Rocklage has worked as CEO, and Chairman of Cubist Pharmaceuticals has also been the CEO and President of Nycomed Salutar as well as holding other leadership roles as R&D of Salutar and Catalytica. Previously, the Doctor had chaired the board of Novira, a J&J acquisition. Scott has also worked as the Executive chairman of Ilypsa and Miikana presently owned by Amgen and EntreMed respectively. Undoubtedly, the magnitude of Dr. Scott’s leadership cannot be overstressed.
Scott Rocklage has a remarkable background in education which incorporates a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Philosophy degree in Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He took his BSc. Degree in Berkeley and later joined MIT. At MIT, Dr. Rocklage worked closely with Richard R. Schrock, the 2005 Nobel Prize Winner. Dr. Scott conducted his research in Schrock’s laboratory.
5AM Ventures, the company Rocklage manages is named as such due to its involvement in the business of firm formation, and 5AM is obviously early concerning time. 5AM Ventures is an investment capital corporation founded on life science. Dr. Scott joined the firm in 2003 as an investment partner and became the Managing partner a year later. His roles in the business include researching new features of life science, coordinating the company’s portfolio management team and organizing and attending board meetings amongst others.
